Formula cars from 60:th to the end of 90:th. From left above to the right. 1) Toleman-Benetton TG 185. Built 1985 and equipped with 1.5 l, 850 ps turbo engine. Toleman started with F1-racing without having the necessary money or other important contracts as for ex. tires. Bennetton, an Italian clothing firm, a name most people know about, helped the team to start. But the engine was not good enough so the season was wasted. Bennetton later bought the team and Bennetton Clothes jumped in the F1-circus. 2) The result of Benetton's
work showed 1986-1994 with this car. It got a 3.5 l engine, 8 cyl, 680
ps, Ford aspirating engine. During a several year long development
process Bennetton succeeded to take 30 VM points pro year. At last they
had a F1 win 1989 at Suzaka in Japan with Alessandro Nannini as driver. 5) Zakspeed F1 1987. Yet a car with 4 cyl 1.5 l turbo engine and 900 ps. So much power out of 1.5 liter! Zakspeed was a private team and build both engine and car themselves. But just as with Bennettons small 4 cyl. engine the Zakspeed machine with high output figures couldn't take the mechanical stresses. During the time this team existed they only won 2 VM-points rest of the races was a non qualifier or finisher. 1990 the money was used up. 6) Fittipaldi F7 1980. 3 l, 8 cyl, 500 ps Ford Cosworth. The point with this car was that under the body they had special profiles which gave the car an under pressure and of that better braking and cornering abilities. Further more this car didn't make any impression in F1-circus, only a 3:rd place with Keke Rosberg. 7) Williams FW 07 1980. 3 l, 8 cyl, 440 ps Ford Cosworth. Frank Williams, a liked and disliked person in racing, succeeded after 3 years to take his first F1 win. The secret with Williams success was the kind of plate which formed the undercarriage of the car. Thanks to his team leader Patrick Head who formed this face perfect. It is called apron-technique. They could get a centrifugal force so high that the driver had difficulties to keep his head in place. The system with apron-technique was forbidden in F1 1983. 8) Williams FW 09 1984. Honda 1.5 l, 6 cyl, 680 ps turbo-motor. 9) Williams FW11. Honda 1.5 l, 6 cyl, 850 ps turbo-motor. World Champion car with Nelson Piquet and Roger Mansel. Williams had since the rule change acc. to apron-technique lost his leading position in F1 and was now only one team that was driving. Mostly because they didn't have enough strong engine. Not until 1987 when William got access to engines of Honda the trend was changed. and he won VM. 10) Hildegas 1960. V8, 5,4 l, 300 ps. A Indy car. In vain I have searched for information about this car on internet. 11) Erik Broadley, brain behind Lola, did his first Indy-Lola 1965, T80. With this car they won Indianapolis 500. The following year they won with Graham Hill in a T90. Lola developed the car for 1967 year season, T92, but didn't succeed so well. 1969 Lola won the price for Rookie of the year with Mark Donohue. 12) Jordan Mugen Honda 198. 1998. Honda 3 l, 10 cyl, 800 ps aspirating engine. From this year cars must have tires with pattern. Only for to prevent the high cornering speeds. Jordan had drivers like Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher. With those Jordan succeeded to take enough with VM points to qualify forF1. 13) Lola 93a 14) Lotus 99T. 1987. Honda 1.5 l, 6 cyl, 660 ps, turbo motor. With this model Lotus expected to start to win again. Although Honda delivered engines for Williams too. Lotus got a few victories in beginning of season but William was superior and Lotus became only second or third car. The engine of Honda made a fantastic season when normally take the first three places. 15) McLaren Mp4 1991. 3.5 l, 12 cyl, 700 ps Honda aspirating engine. This car won F1 1991 with Ayrton Senna. 16) Sauber Petronas C15. 1996. Ford Zetec, 3 l, 10 cyl, 670 ps. Sauber is a company in Schwitzerland. They rebuild a 8 cyl. Ford engine to 10 cyl. They had high expectations on this engine, but in vain, it didn't fulfill those. Engine gave 670 ps at 15800. 17) West McLaren Mercedes. 1997. Mercedes 10 cyl, 3 l, 700 ps engine. A very successful car in the hands of Finish drivers. For ex. Häkkinen. Read my article under Mercedes museum. 18) Sauber Mercedes C 13. 1994. 3.5 l, 12 cyl, 760 ps Mercedes aspirating engine. Mercedes went greatly in for F1 was not satisfied with the achievement of Sauber although they manage to take 24 VM points. It was instead McLaren who got access to the best engine of this period. 19) Tyrell P34 1976. Ford Cosworth 3 l, 8 cyl, 420
ps aspirating engine.
Tyrell racing was founded by Ken Tyrell 1960. 1968 they did start to
race and kept on till 1998. 1968-1969 they drove with Matra cars, after
that March and at the end of 1969 there own constructions. Among them
they did this 6-wheeler. Hoping that air resistance should be lower as
it had much smaller tires in front. Unfortunately the rear was normal
for F1. They did not get any advantage. The car went well at Anderstorp
Sweden although there was no future for this construction. |
